Position Description Responsibilities will be in I&C Design Engineering for existing and new nuclear power plants.  Specific assignment will include performing software verification and validation for nuclear-safety-related systems in accordance with IEEE Standard 1012 and NRC Regulatory Guides 1.152 and 1.168. Duties may also include writing generic program documents. Mentoring less experienced engineers is an important aspect of this position. The successful candidate will be able to provide technical assistance and direction to junior engineers preparing similar document sets for other systems. The candidate must be able to communicate experience and knowledge effectively.

Group Description The I&C Plant Engineering Department performs engineering, analysis, calculations, software verification and validation, and studies related to Instrumentation and Control systems and components in nuclear plants.  This work includes conceptual designs, writing specifications, creating Design Change Packages, loop accuracy and setpoint calculations, licensing support, and other related activities. 

Typical Projects Your Group May Work On Upgrade from analog to digital of Engineered Safeguards/Reactor Protection System at an existing nuclear power plant.  New, fully digital, safety-related systems in new nuclear power plants. 


All candidates must meet the following minimum  requirements in order to be considered for this Engineer IV opportunity.  Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position. 
 
  • BS in engineering or computer science plus 6 years minimum software V&V experience. It is not required that the experience be in the nuclear power industry. A PE license will be accepted in lieu of a 4 year engineering degree.  An advanced engineering or computer science degree may be substituted for related work experience.  (MS 1-2 yrs. or PhD 1-3 yrs)
  • Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures in process software engineering to the completion of difficult assignments.
  • An aptitude for technical problem solving, strong interpersonal skills, written and oral communication, experience working in a team environment, and a client service focus are required.
  • Knowledge of software engineering principles, familiarity with US codes and standards required.
 The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position. 
  • Experience designing or programming digital control systems.
  • Software V&V experience in the US commercial nuclear power industry.
  • Experience in nuclear power plant design, programming, or operation.
  • Nuclear propulsion experience in the US Navy.
Depending on desired qualifications, Areva may choose to offer this position at a higher level than Engineer IV.
