Position Description
Applies diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignment or functions as expert in a narrow specialty. Works independently on problems and methods and typically represents the organization at conferences to resolve important questions and plan and coordinate the work Investigates new designs and evaluates the impact on performance and costs.
Function as a discipline lead engineer in performing seismically qualified structural analysis and design efforts for licensing a new reactor design in the U.S. Preparation of engineering documents (calculations, reports, drawings, criteria documents) in support of new reactor designs. Interface with our client's European counterparts to understand the Light Water Reactor and Gas Reactor Designs. Participate in and support interface with regulatory authorities to obtain regulatory approval of reactor designs.
Typical Projects Your Group May Work On
The Plant Design Civil/Structural group provides Civil/Structural engineering resources and support for the US EPR Design Certification Project, for the Unistar Construction Operating License Application (COLA) Project, and for detailed design related to construction of the first US EPR. Future work will include providing civil engineering resources and support for detailed planning for the construction of the first installation of the US EPR and for the development of additional COLAs for future Unistar customers.
All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this Principal Engineer opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position. - BS in Engineering/Engineering Technology plus 7-10 years of engineering experience. An advanced engineering degree may be substituted for related work experience (MS 1-2 yrs. or PhD 1-3 yrs.). In applicable states a PE licenses will be accepted in lieu of a 4 year engineering degree.

- Able to meet nuclear plant access requirements and drug testing requirements.
- Previous experience leading design projects related to U.S. nuclear power plants.
- Previous experience performing dynamic structural analyses.
- Experience in application of concrete and steel design codes.
- Licensed professional engineer.

- Experience in performing dynamic loading calculations (impact, explosion pressure wave)
- Computer Aided Engineering tools experience (AutoCAD, Intergraph)
- Nuclear Industry experience

Travel
Work location is in the Charlotte IBM complex. Periodic travel to Lynchburg or other project office locations may be required and will be planned in advance.
